Born in 1965 in Austin, Texas, Jennifer McCarthy lived many years in El Paso, Texas where the border lifestyle, the Chihuahuan desert, and the strong Mexican culture influenced her psyche and her art. She attributes the aboriginal flavor of her work to the countless hours spent walking the desert and the Rio Grande where the colors and patterns within the sand, stone and water informed a vision as vibrant as the El Paso murals from her youth and the city parks overflowing with extended families, piñatas, and mariachis.
